A fine is probably appropriate. It's what somebody else would get for a first offense.

And, of course, it's probably the politically astute thing to do. Any jail time, or even probation, would be seen as politically motivated, even if it were otherwise called for.

Still... we seem to have ceded the rules entirely to the billionaires. They can break election laws with impunity, since courts are restricted to imposing fines, at most. The fines are pocket change for the wealthy.

If it were me, I'd have liked to seen a single day in jail imposed. Even if it's delayed until after his Presidential term.

(Strictly, this is not a violation of election law, but a business rule. But it was done in the context of an election law violation, which I think means it should get more than the minimum punishment.)
